The Best Time of Day to Take a Ballet Class

Best Time of Day to Take a Ballet Class

“Time isn’t the main thing. It’s the only thing.” – Miles Davis

Alberta Ballet School is proud to offer unparalleled training to dancers of all ages, levels and abilities. Open division classes are available to all levels of experience; whether you are new to ballet or are looking to get back to the barre after many years we have several levels of ballet classes that are all accompanied by a talented pianist. You may be asking yourself, with numerous classes available, what time of day is best to take a class?

Morning

The morning is a great opportunity to get your body moving and some studies have shown that you burn more calories if you engage in physical activity within an hour of waking up. Moving in the morning is also a wonderful way to start your day off on the right foot.

With that being said, you should be cautious if you are prone to digestive issues or feel the need to eat first thing in the morning. Pushing yourself after you have been asleep for many hours may cause your body to cramp, make you dizzy or nauseous. If you feel fine to take an early morning class, be sure to properly hydrate and nourish your body before and after class.

Afternoon

An afternoon class is the perfect fit for someone who feels their energy takes a dip mid-day. It is not too early if you often feel rushed in the mornings and it is also not too late if you like to wind down in the evenings. Taking a dance class in the afternoon can boost your energy levels and give you the pep you need to take on the rest of the day.

Afternoon classes can be difficult for those without as much flexibility. If you often have busy afternoons professionally or personally do not try to squeeze dance in too. Too many competing priorities may result in missed classes.

Evening

Evening classes are typically very popular. People use evening classes to shut off their minds and transition into time spent just for them. Finishing off the day with a great ballet class can clear your head and transition yourself from a busy day at work or at school to a night for you.

Be mindful though, exercising later in the day can as mentioned above, boost your energy levels. This can possibly make it difficult to relax later in the evening and even affect your sleeping schedule. Keep this in mind when you are looking to attend an evening ballet dance class.

At the Alberta Ballet School, we now offer options of in studio classes as well as robust at home training through our new Virtual Training Program for 6 to 12 year old students. We look forward to welcoming you into our studies in Edmonton and Calgary.
