Alberta Ballet School: Virtual Programming (Part-2)

VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING

Alberta Ballet School is excited to launch our new 14-week Open Division Virtual Training Program in both Calgary and Edmonton for those who are not comfortable coming back to our in-studio programs at this time. Although we are confident in the protocols we have in place for safe in-studio programming, we understand and respect the varying comfort levels of our families and dancers. Our faculty has prepared a very special and unique virtual program this summer for the highest benefits to their training at home.

“The virtual training program was really created when we said to ourselves what is the best way to support and nurture young dancers during closures or quarantine? We needed something to keep the students engaged and inspired and something to keep them moving forward” says Ashley McNeil, Director of Alberta Ballet School. Adding “what makes this program truly unique, is that it is based on Alberta Ballet Schools accomplished and detailed curriculum and system of training, and the most amazing part is that the Alberta Ballet Company dancers demonstrate the movements beautifully.”

Alberta Ballet School’s Virtual Training Program has two components:

1) Real-Time Zoom Classes:

The schedule of live online classes will allow students to connect with their peers and their teacher and obtain real-time instruction, feedback, and correction. The pre-recorded modules have been designed to help your child train at home safely and effectively.

2) NEW – Virtual Platform:

This program is based on the Alberta Ballet School’s unique artistic curriculum and will be a key resource for your child. This program is a series of pre-recorded modules that will help your child continue to pursue their passion for dance. Some of the considerations we saw as key to engaging students in their self-directed training include:

    • Tutorials are level-specific so that the guidance suits your child’s current ability and specific curriculum outcomes.
    • Tutorials are hosted by Alberta Ballet School faculty and other leading dance experts and colleagues from around the world.
    • Demonstrations are modeled by Alberta Ballet Company dancers (where you’ll also find some Alberta Ballet School alumni!)
    • The skills showcased in the modules were selected specifically because these are the right exercises for students to develop in a home environment. Modules include posture, placement and body awareness, ballet fundamentals, curriculum studies, and music, and ballet theory.

Our teachers are deeply knowledgeable, hold an international accreditation, and have had extensive careers in performance. Their incredible insight, combined with our curriculum, is what makes the Virtual Training Program stand apart from other online offerings. We hope it’s also a way to continue to inspire and encourage your child.
