Virtual Programming

Alberta Ballet School is excited to launch our brand new Virtual Open Division Program! This online programming had been designed to help your child train at home safely and effectively. Alberta Ballet School’s Virtual Open Division Programs consist of two unique elements allowing it to stand apart from other online offerings. We hope it’s also a way to continue to inspire and encourage your child.

So, what will this Virtual Programming consist of you ask Read on to learn more!

What is the Virtual Training Program (VTP)?

Alberta Ballet School’s Virtual Training Program has two components:

    1. Real-Time Zoom Classes:
The schedule of live online classes will allow students to connect with their peers and their teacher and obtain real-time instruction, feedback, and correction.
    2. Virtual Training Portal:
The Virtual Portal is a website with a series of pre-recorded modules that will help your child continue to pursue their passion for dance. These modules are based on Alberta Ballet School’s unique artistic curriculum and will be a key resource for your child.

Some of the considerations we saw as key to engaging students in their self-directed training include:

    • Tutorials are level-specific so that the guidance suits your child’s current ability and specific curriculum outcomes.
    • Tutorials are hosted by Alberta Ballet School faculty and other leading dance experts and colleagues from around the world.
    • Demonstrations are performed by Alberta Ballet Company dancers (where you’ll also find some Alberta Ballet School alumni!)
    • The skills showcased in the modules were selected specifically because these are the right exercises for students to develop in a home environment. Modules include posture, placement and body awareness, ballet fundamentals, curriculum studies, and music, and ballet theory.

Our teachers are deeply knowledgeable, hold an international accreditation, and have had extensive careers in performance. Their incredible insight, combined with our curriculum, is what makes the Virtual Training Program stand apart from other online offerings. We hope it’s also a way to continue to inspire and encourage your child.

What Interface is being used for the Virtual Program?

Real-time classes will be offered via Zoom, a video conferencing web-based program. When you receive your first link to the class, Zoom will ask you to download the app – no login is required and it is safe to download this to your computer. Once the app has downloaded it should automatically open to the meeting you have been invited to. Please start your first class early to allow time to download the app to your computer.

The invite will be sent closer to the start of the program. Please ensure you check your Junk Mail folder in case the invite was directed there.

The Virtual Training Portal is built into our website. After registration, dancers will receive their log-in information to access the Portal. Students will only have access to tutorials that are appropriate for their level.

Alberta Ballet School has successfully delivered online programming in July and August to locations all over the world. Our facility has been equipped with the technology infrastructure to host virtual programming without interruption.

The Alberta Ballet School staff and IT department have been working hard to ensure that our Virtual Training Program provides the very best for our students! The Portal to the Virtual Training Program is accessible via our website. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us!
